Who Killed the Electric Car?
a review by Neil Carnahan The Basics In 1996, the electric car surfaced on many roads in California, they were quiet and fast, produced no exhaust, and ran without gasoline. In ten years, these great vehicles were almost entirely gone. What happened? This documentary fills us in on the murderous tale. It starts off giving a history of the idea behind the idea for the battery-powered car and some of the geniuses who invented the battery itself. Then it details how and why this amazing car was pretty much wiped off the face of the planet. The film has a section for each culprit behind this plot to dispose of the one of the most radical ideas in automotive history. It specifies the car industry, the oil companies, the government and the media, all involved, and for what? To make money. This film is amazing. It’s truly jaw-dropping. I went through a series of emotions during the film ranging from anger, sadness and hopelessness of how such a bright, futuristic idea could be so systematically crushed all for the big green dollar and at the expense of the environment. But even with all that aside, the most enjoyable part of this film is that it does not have an angry or bitter tone to it at all. It just has concerned, confused and sometimes hurt individuals telling their story. It even ends with an uplifting and hopeful attitude, which is a breath of fresh air, what with all the criticism and cynicism that permeates the media and cultural in general these days. This is the best film of 2006 and one of the most important documentaries of all time. Everyone must see Who Killed the Electric Car? What the DVD Offers The DVD doesn’t offer a whole lot, a handful of deleted scenes and a documentary called "Jump-Starting the Future" which was very enjoyable. Film Grade: A+ DVD Grade: B
